my present (with direct line) policy runs out in feb. i pay nearly 200 for buildings alone.

typical 1935 semi, 3 beds, in the M6 postcode area. manchester.
i know its difficult to compare like for like, but does anyone have a better deal anywhere? and or is the halifax very good in this matter?

It is a very good policy, one of the best as rated by Defaqto.

Hi, Ormus. Have you looked through Quidco for cash back? I went with Nat West this time for about the same. I read a lot of folk on here recomend the Pru. It might be worth a look before you take the plunge?
If winter comes, can spring be far behind?

I find the Halifax quotes expensive. Equally those via Quidco (minus the offered cashback) exceed average external quotes .. for me.

Best I've found (last 3 years now) .. is M&S. There's no limit of both structure and content ... and they meet my requirement of above £75k for content, which knocks a fair number of quotes out.

But I moved my Mum's policies from CIS last year ... and M&S halved the cost, despite her requirements were fairly modest in terms of cover. Simply ran the Moneysupermarket screen scraper (from the Insurance article on the main site)

    re direct line insurance
well got my renewal from direct line today for 195 quid buildings only.
so called them and said the halifax had quoted me 239 inc contents.
at first they requoted me at 328 so i told them to cancell. then they passed me over to CS dept. after a small discussion, they said i could have buildings and contents for 229 quid!
    what a result eh?

moral? get 2 quotes every year, and play one against the other.
