TomTom One V3 or not?

Hi,
going to USA in a few months and was looking at renting a satnav unit.
Cost was c£80 so I think this is not such a good deal.
I'm thinking i'd be better off buying a UK unit and then buying a USA map.
The TomTom One seems to be favoured in my budget range.
From what I believe it does not have a SD card slot? is this case?
And if so does it make this better or is V2 a better choice.
Any advice warmly received.
Thanks

TomTom ONE v3 does not have an SD card slot, although the TomTom ONE XL does. Personally I would recommend buying a TomTom with an SD card slot if you intend buying extra maps.
I have a TomTom ONE v1, and am overjoyed with it.
Can't comment on TT ONE v2, don't know much about it.

thanks for your help.
Seems wierd that they remove from a better version?
Doesn't seem that earlier versions are that easy to get0 -
If you do go for a ONE v3 you'll either need to buy the Europe edition to get the memory space you want to get the USA map on it because the europe edition has 1Gb of internal memory and the USA map is apx 900mb. Or you buy the smaller regional USA maps to fit the 512mb on the Tomtom ONE UK.0

I suspect that to remain competitive (i.e. pressure to cut price) TomTom released the ONE 3rd edition with lots of features stripped out, or functionality crippled.
I guess TomTom would suggest that if you want a ONE with lots of features (such as capacity to store lots of maps) you should purchase the ONE XL.
But as Boatman suggests, if you're on a limited budget and need to store the USA maps, the ONE European version may well be a suitable compromise.Of course, I may just be talking b****cks!0 -
Hey there, I have a Tomtom One v3 which I purchased just before christmas, it came with UK and Europe maps and it does have a memory expansion slot which accepts a SD card which I was planning on purchasing the USA maps also (they are half price at the moment on the tomtom website untill the 31st of Jan).0

Are you sure it's not the ONE 2nd edition?? I think you should check this out.
TomTom are quite explicit on their website that the 3rd edition uses internal memory (512MB/1GB) instead of an SD card:

If you have 'tomtom' written on the silver screen surround of your tomtom ONE its the 3rd edition. If the screen surround is black with the 'hands' symbol you have the earlier version, the disadvantage with the earlier versions is that they do not accept the TMC traffic receiver, but you can use a bluetooth mobile for traffic info.Hey there, I have a Tomtom One v3 which I purchased just before christmas, it came with UK and Europe maps and it does have a memory expansion slot which accepts a SD card which I was planning on purchasing the USA maps also (they are half price at the moment on the tomtom website untill the 31st of Jan).0 -
The tomtom ONE XL is going for £130 in a few places, you can then use the USA map on SD memory card(1Gb min.).
