What is this symbol ?

Every now and again i get a symbol in the shape of an eye appear at the bottom of my screen. I am new to this computer stuff so could someone please tell me what it is. Thanks.

    Seriously though, you need to describe it more. Eg. is this in windows, when using internet explorer.. what application?

    It comes up when i am using internet explorer or sometimes when i am chatting in forums like this. It is an eye in a circle with a red line through it. Thanks for helping.

    It's related to your privacy settings.

    Double-clicking on it tells you about cookies that website has sent you. A red mark tells you that your browser has blocked some cookies because of your privacy settings

    Oh, so that is what it is. I got someone to set the computer up so it was for family use they must have done something then. Thankyou for your help:D

    If you click
    Tools then
    Internet Options
    and than click on the Privacy tab
    you'll see there is a slider you can move up and down.
    At medium it's set to 'block third party cookies...'

    For extra security there are also programs that will add a list of known bad sites to block from doing stuff.

    Spyware Blaster
    Spybot S+D
    IE Spyad
