Little Dilemma
Hi All
I have a question
We are moving house on Feb 1st , we are currently with BG for gas and leccy , i did do the comparison site and it came up with Scottish Power as the supplier best for us , the thing im confused about is what to do now , i have cancelled with SP because the price rise from NPower happened the day after , becuase we move in fresh somewhere i am unsure wether to give BG our final readings and leave them or do i stay with BG for a short while and then do the price comparison thing ?
Any advice would be GREATFULLY received !

Scottish Power may not be the best supplier in your new place, and you will need to register with the existing provider at that address, then change later after comparing.
If you change now and then after Feb 1 there will be quite a lot of data to 'catch up', could cause confusion.
Anyway you will have enough on your plate whilst you are settling in.0 -

Hi Ken
Thanks , again !
What about if i give BG our meter readings on the 31st Jan from the old place , then do the price comparison that day and the use the comparison service you specified to me the other day , then take meter readings from the new place and provide those to the chosen company once the process has taken place of switching...?

Who is currently supplying gas and electricity for your new place?
You can't 'take' BG with you to your new house; you are stuck initially with the existing supplier at that property(as Ken said) - it could be any utility company.
Ensure you read your meters in your old property and the new one when you move. When you decide on the best option you can start to change supplier but it will take several weeks(and often a lot of hassle!)0 -

Hi
Surley i can give the currnet new place suppliers meter readings from feb 1st to close those accounts and they can final bill the previous owner ?
and then give any new supplier i may have signed up with between now and then new readings from the 1st feb also...?
the gas is npower and the electric is e-on...

In theory yes!
In practice there will be a time lapse before BG will take over the accounts.0 -

With gas and electricity, the contract you have is only for one house (supply point).
So for your current (old) house, you will need to tell your supplier (BG) when you move out & your readings from the old house.
Your new house has other suppliers (npower & eon), so when you move in you will have to phone them with the readings from that house. You can't backdate a contract to the day you moved in, so you will be supplied by npower & eon for a few weeks at least.
You can also sign your new house up to any supplier, but it can take 4-7 weeks before the contract goes live. When that happens, take new readings so you can give them to npower, eon and your new supplier.0 -
Ok Guys
thanks for all your help so far
This is what i should do then ? (sorry to be a pain)
1) Call BG on the day we leave with meter readings and request final bill
2)Do a switch when Martin recommends whenever that may be and provide meter readings to the new supplier , when asked
3)Call NPower and E-ON on Feb 1st when we move in with meter readings so that they can send a final bill to the previous occupier and start us off , at least till we switch..
?
Cheers (again)

Yes!
Make sure you get the name of the person you speak to at NPower, BG and E-ON and if possible get them to email/write with some acknowledgement of the conversation - the meter readings have a habit of disappearing!!!0
