bilbao trip

Off to Bilbao soon. Can anybody give me advice on what to see/do there? Also, any nice day trips using public transport?

Bilbao has the famous Guggenheim Museum, which I have never visited, but which does have a good reputation.
The locals are also some of the friendliest in Spain, so if you can speak Spanish then its worth having a go.
The Basques have a reputation as the best cooks in Spain, so local food is excellent, especially fish and seafood. Their bar sandwiches can also be enormous.
In terms of day trips, take the bus (not the train) to San Sebastian; it is one of the most beautiful cities in the region and the Concha beach is a delight, especially if you take one of the funiculars.
Within Bilbao, there is also a funicular ride to the top of the Archanda mountain, with great views over the city and region. If you look at the metro map, it is indicated on there.0 -
