Lost Fav's in FF

I've just run Spybot & AdAware for the first time since installing Firefox. I don't really understand what I should do when they find anything "critical" so I delete them. Because I got fed up waiting, I ran Google earth, whilst waiting. Then my comp froze and I had no alternative but to turn the power off and nothing else functioned.

When i started up again I clicked on Bookmarks (in FF) and saw all my Favourites had gone.

Should I now uninstall FF and install it, to get FF back how it was? or should I laboriously cut and paste them one by one?

First make sure you haven't accidentally created a new Firefox profile. Are all your extensions/custom theme still working? If not try the following:

    Shut down Firefox completely.
    Click Start and then Run
in the box that appears, paste:

    Firefox -p

The 'Profile Manager' will appear. there should be only one entry. If there are more than one, select default and see if that fixes the problem.

    If that's not your problem:

firefox should store backups to your bookmarks. Try this:

Click Start then Run, and paste in:
    %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

You should see a folder starting with a random number like 63543543.default
    In that click bookmarksbackup

You can then use one of those files to restore your bookmaks by going in firefox to
    Bookmarks > Organize bookmarks
then from the page that appears click:
    File > Import
point to one of the backup files and they should all come back

Firefox keeps a backup of your favourites.
Go to bookmarks - organise - file - import
browse to c drive - documents and settings folder - then the folder of the username you are logged into as - application data - mozilla - firefox - profiles - then into the folder that is in here(will be named something gibberish.default) - then into bookmark.backups folder.

There should be a list of 7 days worth of backups. Choose the latest one. Click Open.

You should have the bookmarks back again.

    Hope that helps.

Phew. I've just been back to read the posts that I received when i initially asked about FF and note that BillScarab had said:-

Firefox and IE will be in your normal list of prgrams, click start, all programs and both will be there. You will also probably have icons on your desktop for them unless you specifically said no during the install. They'll probably be in the quick launch area as well.

From memory when you first run Firefox it will ask you if you want it to be the default browser. There is also an option to import your favourites from IE7
    .

So I was going to ask if there was somewhere within FF that I could go back to and request Favourites be imported from IE?. then I found your replies.

I, or rather WE did it!. Actually it was less complicated than suggested. It was:-

Bookmarks>organise>file>import from Microsoft internet explorer and there they were. I note that I had to re-enter my log-in details and password to get here, and presumably will everywhere else, but that's no problem.

    Thanks.
