Have had an AMEX card for 12 months (3% Cashback offer) and have just received the Cashback (No complaints from me).
However, how likely is it that AMEX will allow me to have the 5% Cashback rate as an existing customer, or will I have to go through the process of applying for a Capital One card (4% Cashback) and if accepted cancel the AMEX and re-apply to AMEX as a new customer providing the 5% rate is still available?
Any guidance would be very much appreciated!

When I switched from Blue to Platinum Amex, I didn't get the new customer rate because I was an existing customer. When I cancelled the Platinum card, Amex said I could reapply after 6 months as a new customer and get any special deals that were going.0
