Lenders report suspects asbestos

Just got the valuation report from Abbey which says asbestos is suspected in the internal boiler flue, soffit boards and garage roof of the 1960's property we're buying. Is this something to be concerned about? should we go ahead?
Advice welcomed.
Thanks!

i believe asbestos is ok until it is removed..... in which case special disposal is required.... i have a house and garage built in the 1930's, the garage roof is a form of asbestos. when i replace it , i will need to deal with it properly.

Yes, as long as it's not disturbed it's fine, like Robnye said, if you have to do something with it you will need to get specialist advice at that stage.

Nothing to worry about though. :)

Exactly what I was going to say! While it is probably not a health risk if left untouched, the garage roof is likely to need replacing at some point and you may end up with the cost of removing the asbestos. I would get the asbestos checked to see which type it is then find the cost of disposal. I would then be looking for a reduction in the price of the house.

Not necessarily, as long as it's left alone and not damaged in anyway then there's no hard at all.

A lot of Artex manufactured in the early 80s and before contains asbestos - it must be present in millions of houses but it's done no harm.

If in doubt you can get it checked but personally I wouldnt worry a great deal...

90% of the reports now says this! ITs surveyors covering thier backsides!
Textured ceilings can contain asbestos (common in 70s) and so if you have a textured ceiling in the house the surveyor will say the house could contain asbestos. See your local council website for details of how to work with asbestos safely (should you want to remove it).

Personally speaking the type used and the quantity is low and there are much more dangerous chemicals in the house! It was just a few years ago that asbestos was in car brakes so we all breathed it in when walking down the road.
