I just bought another car. I still have my old car. It is off road and uninsured. At present my brother does not have a car and wants to use my old car. He wants to insure it in his own name and use it. Can he do it while the car is still under my name? He is aware he is responsible for any speeding tickets etc?
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D

I think most insurance companies won't insure someone unless they are the registered keeper

You could always insure it yourself and add him as a named driver - or just put him down on the v5!

Best option is to register the car in your Brothers name, then register it back to yourself when you take it back from him.

Some insurers don't insist that the car is insured by the registered keeper. As long as they live at the same address, some comapnies dont mind.

even though the most sensible thing to do is to change the registered keeper and then change it back, you have to consider it can take several weeks for the change to take effect and then the same when changing back. It will also add 2 owners to the car - which can affect the resale value.

Insurance : Some will do it, some won't. You'll have to shop around.

Speeding Tickets : YOU, and NOT your brother will be responsible and the first point of contact if the vehicle is registered in your name regardless of who insures it. If he gets flashed by a camera the notification will come to YOU. It will then be up to you to name your brother as the driver. I hope you trust your brother !!
