    ouch thats nasty
was it by any chance one of the little machines they have indoors free standing, see them in pubs and clubs mainly...
they are evil, one charged me £3 a few days ago for getting a tenner but inside the club the bouncers didnt let you go out and back in again and the bar didnt take cards   >:(

I would rather die of thirst than to pay £3 to withdraw a tenner for drinks!

The ones that charge are ones you find in Pubs and small village shops for example so you are paying for the convience arnt you ?
The village where my parents live have one in the village shop , yes it costs £1.50 a go but the other alternative is a 14 mile round trip to the nearest town.

However if they start charging for the ones in the banks then thats a different story theres no way they should be charging for those.

Yeah that's fair enough and VERY useful in those situations but I live on the edge of town and have a few ATM's about 1-2 miles away, therefore cheaper to drive to those than use the ones in the immediate vicinity that charge.

  • Beware of the ATM machines in service areas.
I recently visited the services on the M18/M180 near Doncaster. I went into fuel up and whilst paying I noticed a cash Machine, I was going to draw some cash from it and when it said the transaction would cost £1.75 I cancelled the transaction. I then went over to the Main building and withdrew £100 from the Nationwide cash machine, this service was free. However when I recently checked my bank account, I noticed that the first transaction had showed up on my statement  so although I had cancelled the transaction it had still gone through so my account is down £101.75. at present this is under investigation. [glow=red,2,300][/glow]so check your Bank statements after using these machines.

Just a quick update. My bank investigated this matter and have now refunded the £101.75.
But had I not have noticed this, I would have been £101.75 short.... how many people check their statements properly? Especialy if people used one of these machines at the begining of the month and had to wait 30days for a statement etc.
To me this is Fraud yet nothing is being done about it. I have never seen a prosecution for the owner/s of one of these machines and after all these are private companies that own and run these atms, not banks

In Doncaster Railway Station they have removed the cash machines built in the wall and put the ticket office there. There are now standing machines. I knew that these machines often charge, but I thought being a main railway station and being in place of the other machines they wouldn't charge. They do!!! :o

5 minutes walk across the road in the town there are banks with free machines. Failing that, I would rather wait til I get to my destination. Alternatively, (AFAIK) cashback on Switch/Maestro is free.
