New York 3rd-6th august hotel ?

Any ideas on cheapest accomodation to get for these 3 nights on the Big Apple. Prefereably in mid town with easy access to the sights????

New York in the summer does not do "cheap". However a reasonably priced hotel for the summer months is the Metro Hotel 45 West 35th. We spent 3 nights there in June and thought the location was fantastic. Near Macy's, overlooking Empire State, 15 mins walk to Times Square, 20 Mins walk to MOMO... We were so impressed we've written a review on https://www.tripadvisor.com which will give you more information. Bear in mind with the price of this hotel (approx 100/pn) also includes a breakfast (buffet style) which most other hotels don't and as much coffee/tea as you can drink throughout the day. Also if you go, ask for the Macy's introductory card at the front desk and get 11% off all your purchases.
Note: price of taxi to/from JFK approx 45USD

I've stayed at the Hotel Metro and agree it is very well located and it is very well priced.

I've also stayed at the Holiday Inn on w32nd st/Broadway. That is also well located and is a nice hotel.

If I was going again I'd opt for the metro as my first choice.
