Help! Ripping a Cd problem with Vista

I've ripped Cds on my old PC (XP), with no problems full stop.
I've recently had a new PC and have just ripped a couple CDs for the first time. They seem to rip fine.
I go to play them from the HDD - but there is no sound, just a 'bumpy' sort of noise. Media player recognises the album and tracks.
I'm ripping as an MP3.
Anyone any ideas?
Thanks.
