Route Planning advice

I have been contemplating a coastal tour of the uk. I would like to keep off major routes, and obviously stop and visit intresting sites etc, does anyone have a recommendation for a book for this type of thing, or do you have any recommended routes that might be suitable.
We will be going on our Scooters (burgman 650s for the techies) and we want to get the most from this tour, and if all is well we will look to go abroad next year.
thanks..

One book which might be of interest is "Coast Road: 3,000 Miles at the Edge of England" by Paul Gogarty. Only covers England though.........There seem to be more books for walkers and cyclists.

I live on the island of Anglesey, North Wales. I can recommend you include Anglesey's 125 mile coastline on your tour. Most of it is classified as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty - more details here

Here is the synopsis of Paul Gogarty's book from Amazon

Award-winning writer Paul Gogarty's second travelogue is an idiosyncratic, intimate and illuminating snapshot of England and Englishness. Gogarty travels close to 3,000 miles along the coast road in a VW camper van to explore coastal communities. All points of the compass are covered in a journey that covers the Thames estuary, Brighton, the South Coast, the West Country, Liverpool Docks, the Cumbrian ports, the last fishermen of Grimsby and the Norfolk and Suffolk coasts. Gogarty discusses coastal geology and history, and introduces a cast of memorable characters. An exploration of Englishness, this well-researched and evocative journal will tempt even the most ardent armchair traveller, and is an excellent follow-up to 'The Water Road.'
