I have bought a Belkin wireless keyboard and optical mouse and both work fine. However, when I start my computer, I get a message saying keyboard not detected. So I have to plug in my old keyboard, start the computer up and then the wireless keyboard work Ok. Surely I shouldn't have to do this every time?

No you shouldnt have to do that everytime you boot up, is it a bluetooth one or just wireless? could you have another bluetooth adaptor and maybe its pairing with that instead of the one it should? i had that it wouldnt find my mouse and it turned out i had paired the mouse to my other bluetooth adaptor so sorted now, but then again it might just be a wireless set but either way you shoudnt have to pair everytime you boot up.The more i save the more i can spend:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0

Off the top of my head, can you not set the BIOS to continue (and not stop) if it can't find something it's expecting like a keyboard. Would need clarification on that, may be worth googling."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0

I think there is a setting in the bios for legacy usb devices which needs to be enabled. To access the bios keep pressing delete at startup and look for the above setting, f10 to save and exit the bios then restart0

Is it a USB connection for the keyboard? There may be a BIOS setting to enable USB mouse / keyboard. My dad had similar problems with his in Windows 98 and for a while we just left his old keyboard permanently attached to the PC. I replaced it with a Non USB keyboard and mouse in the end.0

Set the bios to "halt on no errors" or "do not halt if keyboard not present"0

The "plug in" keyboard is PS/2, but I'll try the bios route as well. Thanks allEven if you are a minority of one, the truth is the truth.0

Removing the software won't have any effect as that's for the OS (not that my cordless had software). The problem will be occuring when it's doing the BIOS checks.0

My new keyboard & mouse set up is :
It only asks for the USB to be connected. I set it up with the PS2 type style and it worked briefly then failed. So I re-read the instructions and missed the bit where it said, use only USB if your machine supports it and leave the PS2 type connection out. Works fine now.
So if you have a usb connection dont plug in the other round connection if your setup has that type, mine does.Ben
