free view box - signal problem

It is recommending they use an amplified extra high gain antenna.
It would be much cheaper to get FreeSat which costs <£70 than to replace the aerial which I was quoted £250+ to have changed.
Freesat does not have the same line up of channels that Freeview has, far inferior IMO.;)
Costs vary depending on location etc. but £250 seems a bit OTT to me.0 -

I had the same problem with the kitchen tv and sky box (Ialready had this but cancelled the subscription. However, I couldnt get it to work so I I had a man in to do it CAI approved , he fitted a new downlead from my sky dish to the skybox and charged me #60.00, it now works perferctly. You live..You learn.:)0 -
Inactive – Glad you could fathom out the relevant part of that mess.
Renegade – I don’t know if that would work with a free view box unless it links the box to the current aerial...
Doonhamer – thanks for the link, useful reading.0 -
However aerials described as "Digital" will probably be wideband aerials which may be needed as the digital signals are transmitted on a wide range of the available channels unlike the analogue signals which are transmitted on channels that are close togetherThere is no so thing as a " Digital Aerial ", whetever it says on the box etc.
In OP's case, I'd pop down to Argos and get a cheap aerial amplifier and see if it makes a difference0 -

Thanks, that sounds like a sensible options. As when I had the aerial fitted, at the time it was to be used with digital technology so assume it should work, but like Inactive says, it may be too old to handle freeview.0 -
Sorry to pour cold water on that idea, a " cheap amplifier/booster " from Argos will probably make things worse.
You need the biggest and best Wide Band aerial available, together with a Mast Head Amplifier, ( as indicated at the Wolfblane Site ) that fits as near to the aerial as possible, it needs a power supply, so loft is the normal place to fit them.
Your existing aerial isn't " too old " it just isn't up to the job.
I hope that helps.;)0 -

We are talking Freeview here, not Sky, let us not confuse matters.;)0 -
Thanks inactive, I think we have a solution, although more expensive solution then I hoped for.0
