How can I tell if a pineapple is ripe?
Might be posting in the wrong place so please feel free to move it.
I bought a pineapple at the weekend because it was on offer and I fancied it as I havent had fresh pineapple for years. Trouble is, it is mostly green but the label claims that it is ripe - I cannot tell and was wondering if there was a way to find out rather than trying to cut into it.
Help would be appreciated.

I was told that you should be able to pull out one of the inner stalks (the greeen sprouty things on top) easily.t If you can't then its not ripe.I USED TO BE INDECISIVE BUT NOW I'M NOT SO SURE!
Rich people tell you that money doesn't bring you happiness just so the poor people don't feel jealous.0 -

5thd!!!!!:D
You can tell by the smell too, like some melons.:wave:0 -
It smells like a pineapple - one leaf came off but others need a sharp tug. Plus I will have a go at growing a pineapple on my sunny windowsill - if I keep it long enough I might just get some of my own (just like those I saw in Singapore).
I will leave the pineapple until tomorrow and have a go at eating it then.
Thanks one and all for your help.
NB. Must remember to buy a Lakeland Pineapple Corer...0 -

My friend bought one of those corers from Lakeland and complained it just made a mush of her pineapple.
It didn't occur to me, until I'd bought it off her, that she's left-handed and had been turning it counter-clockwise  .
Works perfectly for me though.....:wave:0
