Family of 5 holiday...Spain again or where?!

Hi, can anyone help with ideas/destinations? I have skimmed through the holiday threads but not found anything to suit. Anyone any ideas for a self catering (cheaper with 5 usually!) holiday, preferabley in a villa or large apartment? We were going to have a change from Spain this year but would be prepared to think again if the right place came up. Looked at Kenya (not at mo!) and America (hubby and middle daughter not keen on flights..and Disneyland!) as was going to do something a little different this year but starting to think it's too difficult so started to look at better class of villa than we sometimes have had. Wd really like to be within walking distance of shop/restaurants. Girls are 17,15 and 10, all enjoy both chilling by the pool and activities. Trouble is, we prob need to go in school hols in summer so we found Portugal (2 yrs ago..temps in late 30s) too hot to do anything other than swim, and even Dordogne was late 30s when we went last year...we do always seem to drag record high temperatures with us. Shouldn't complain..better than rain I suppose! We do like it hot but not in the 40s really, thus ruling out Greece and Turkey areas I think?

see where you can get reasonable flights to and work from there:

i have looked into scandanavia, sicily and spain round santiago de compostala for similar reasons. also consider 'green coast?!' which is west coast of portugal or west coast of france around la rochelle0 -
I stayed in Le Touquet, Northern France last year for a couple of nights and thought it would be a fantastic place to go on a family holiday - there are wonderful beaches (with kids clubs that look very well run), horse riding, boating. Depending on where you live in the UK it would be an easy journey as it is around an hour (possibly less on the toll road) from Calais.
We were fortunate enough to stay at the Mercure hotel which apart from not overlooking the sea front was perfect. For a longer stay though there are holiday villages a plenty. (Pierre & Vacance, Ibis on the beach, Hippotel - set away from the beach on the banks of the river )
Fantastic food market and restaurants as well as a great wine shop on the other side of the river in the port town. There is a lot to do in the local area too - various medieval villages, childrens farms, an aquarium type place - all within a relatively short distance. Though to be honest we didn't do any of that as the beach is so lovely.
Alas, you are not guaranteed no rain - though I think there is some sort of microclimate which means they tend to have slightly better weather than other parts of the northern coastline.
edit: Forgot to say lots of interesting non-food shops,0
