uses for left over carpet?

Hello,
I have just had a new carpet fitted and have some quite large offcuts... I was wondering if anyone had any good ideas for what to do with it? Can anything be made from it?
I will cut some to shape for the dogs bed, but apart from that I cannot think of anything to do with it... It is a plain green wool mix wilton, and its a shame to chuck it away IYSWIM!
any ideas apreciated!

i have used my off cuts as a runner in my landing so when people take there shoes off by the front door they're not standing on the carpet with muddy/wet shoes

If you have a large bit, put it over your veggie plot over it so stop weeds and keep the soil temprature up ready for planting!

    Hi Foreign correspondent

As someone mentioned allotmenteers (and gardeneers) use carpets. They do so for:
    1. on the ground for weed suppression
    2. ground insulation (to keep the cold out)
    3. ground moisture retention
    4. habitat for creatures in winter - slow worms love my carpets
    5. covering of compost heaps to keep generated heat in and rain out
    6. for laying on paths, playgrounds and sitting areas before laying bark etc
    7. on growing beds carpets with holes may be used to separate plants or contain spreading plants (to keep them clean.

I know my gran used to get the shop that supplied the carpet to turn offcuts into rugs by weaving the edges. Not sure if they still do this (its 25 years ago now :)) but it did make more serviceable and long lasting rugs for heavy wear areas of the carpet.

Do the carpets for gardens/allotments have to be hessian backed? or can foam backed be used also?

If you have a garage you can nail it to the walls to stop your doors opening onto the bricks ;)

    Prevents door scuffing :)

If you have a loft, you could always lay it across the rafters for extra insulation.
