Do i need a usb adaptor?

I have a dell dimention 3000 desktop and want to link my new (thanks to mike) dell vosto1000 laptop wireless, From what i'v read the best thing to buy is a netgear dg834g do i need the usb adaptor? Thanks.

    assuming the pc has an ethernet card, you can use that wired, and the laptop wireless, so no (unless the pc is miles away from the phone point)

    hardwire the desktop to the router vie the ethernet port, laptop on a wirelless connection and create a network in windows.
