transponder key for Clio

I have a T reg Clio. Shortly after purchase the battery started running out on the transponder key. I tried to change the battery but the key no longer works.
Gutted as this is my first car!
Can this be fixed? Or do I need to get a new key arranged? Please can someone tell me how to fix this cheaply? Renault want £150 for a new one and have told me it can not be fixed.

I have a similar problem - one good key but one which does not work. I have changed the battery in the faulty one but still no joy. My local Renault dealer wanted £90 for a new key and £40 to programme it. Did you find an alternative solution Pinkberry21? (Late reply because I have just done a search on the forum and it came up with your post but I notice you have had no replies).

Try wedging a bit of paper between the battery and the contacts for the inner gubbings.

This sometimes works...

Have a look on ebay they will be cheaper there. You will still have to get Renault to reprogram it and cut the key. Make sure you buy an unprogrammed one.

Probably a faulty switch caused by cracked PCB or dry joint. If you know anyone in your family with soldering experience, get them to open it up and check it.

Better than throwing it away.

Another option is to read your manual, see if the key needs resyncing with the car - some do.
