Sink plug is jammed down!

Hi
My bathroom sink has one of those fancy plugs that move up and down by a lever at the back of the tap. Today it has jammed itself down  No matter what I try it just won't budge. At the back of the sink I can see a lever put moving that doesn't help. The lever than goes into a sealed unit so I don't think I can get to anything else. What do I do?? I'm useless with DIY so please keep your ideas simple!
Please help me! :T

When did you get the bathroom put in? Can you go back to the suppliers/manufacturers and ask them to replace the part?0

get 2 thin knives and lift the plug out by putting 1 either side of the plug.
then you may see whats causing the problem.
the plugs normally just rest on the lifting rod, they are not connected in any way.Get some gorm.0 -
Yay, it's sorted!!! Took me ages but I finally managed to free it! No idea why it did it... I put it back in and it seems to be working fine now. How strange

we have ther plugs and they do the same. You need to take the plug bit out of the sink and you will see that it has a screw at the bottom just loosen it to make it longer and this should solve the problem.0

If there's an 'o' ring around the plug itself might be worth giving it a good clean and a greasing with a bit of vegetable oil or even better, Vaseline. Might help lubricate it for next time
All the best!If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always got.
