Where has my £ sign gone?

How weird! I can type £ here, but when I'm in Word it comes up as # (and # comes up as \). I've had this problem in Excel for a while, but I've only just noticed it in Word...

Any suggestions? TIA!

Check the language settings and keyboard settings. Make sure everything is English UK rather than English US.

  • Thanks for the suggestion - I probably should have said that this was my first check, but it doesn't solve the problem. (Looking at your photo, perhaps I should try turning the machine off..... but the problem in Excel is a long term one.)

    Any other suggestions???

Nice idea! It needs the installation disk, which DH will have filed somewhere. I'll get him on the case either tonight (he's likely to be a bit shattered tonight) or tomorrow, and let you know how it goes.

This is quite a likely theory, as he updated Office recently :D

If it's not a language setup issue it maybe a problem with your keyboard connections. If your using a laptop the ribbon cable or the sensor under the key can malfunction. I had an IBM laptop and some keys stopped working on that, it cost about £20 to fix.

But if you are getting a diffrent symbol up from the one you actually wanted it sounds like a setup issue
