I suspect (from experience!) the lining may well shrink which will then effect the way it hangs!

Does it really need washing? How about taking it outside, giving it a really good shake, lay it over the ironing board and give it a wipe down on both sides with a damp cloth, stick it out on the line to air. Quick press and back up. :p

It seems that a lot of things are marked dry clean only when they can be washed normally it is normally the manufacturer covering themselves. We had some expensive lined curtains that I risked on a wool wash and they were fine. I have spoken to a lot of other people who have done this to.

You do need to bear in mind if you do try washing them it is a risk and weigh up if you want to take tha risk

Lakeland do a dry cleaning pack that you can use in your tumble dryer. I've bought some but never used it. It's supposed to be very good.

try putting in the tumble dryer with a nice smelling sheet (on cool if you have that option). unless it is really dirty. then i would risk puttin it on a cool or wool wash and line drying.

I have to say, I have never had anything dry cleaned. Even if it said so. I paid a fortune for a suit in my rep days, have had wool suits, have washed curtains, throws etc, all in the washer on a gentle or wool cycle and not tumble dried them, and so far *touches head for wood* have had no adverse effects. My current bed throw is like a suede effect, patterned, was what I consider a fortune (£50 I saved up) and has been machine washed several times. The only thing with the throw is despite a 7kg machine, its still a squeeze so sometimes i get powder marks.
I would stick it in on a wool cycle, line or hang in the airing cupboard to dry and cross my fingers as others have said.
    good luck

My curtains say dry-clean only. Has anyone tried putting them in the washing machine? They are 100% polyester and the lining is 50% polyester and 50% cotton.

They have the big metal rings at the top.

    Any thoughts?

It's a risk you can only choose yourself

I've washed every pair of dry clean only curtains I have had on a curtain wash (my washer has a curtain and silk wash) then line dried
One day I might be more organised...........

Ive always washed my 'dry clean only' curtains and never had a problem.

They cost a fortune at the dry cleaners so I was happy to make the decision.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

I washed my 'dry clean only' curtains on a delicate wash and ruined them... they looked fine until I came to iron them and I couldn't get the creases out no matter what I tried they looked like old dish clothes... I had to buy new... its a risk you take they may be perfectly fine but if they were expensive I wouldn't risk it..
