High CPU usage? Any remedy?

Hi all,

A friend has just told me that her laptop is taking forever to do simple tasks, and stalling a lot. When CTRL ALT & DEL ing, her system comes up with loads of active things. And her CPU % is jumping high all the time.

Is there a simple solution which will help?

Many thanks

What are the process names that are using the cpu?

Could be a virus, I had one that did that to me.

Luckly I had made a full system backup the day before so just did a restore.

Hi - these are the processes. She emailed me the screenshots (i've just removed her user name in case).

can you get another screenshot, this time press the cpu tab and it will show all processes in order of cpu usage. it is normal to have a high idle process, stalling is probably due to memory/swap file issues.

a virus of some sort or dodgy SW can cause this problem. go back to a restore point of the OS should normally cure it.
    Get some gorm.

You need to sort it by clicking CPU so that the highest is at the top and next highest is 2nd and so on.

As it looks now there is no problem. System Idle is always high on every system.

Consider dumping the google stuff as it's a known system hog.
