my child has facial warts .. i think!

hi
i hadn't thought of looking for advice for this here but have been really encouraged by reading some of the other threads.
my 6 (7 in november) year old son has two small white growths on his face - one just above and one just below his lip. We think they are warts and the doctor seems to agree, but they seem to be growing fairly quickly and the lower one is now very prominant
The trouble is that we live just outside glasgow and having taken my son to the doctors we were then referred to a specialist at the local hospital because of their position on his face.
Last week we received a letter telling us that the hospital had received our referral but with no date for the appointment. we phoned thinking this was a mistake and were then told that the specialist only does two sessions a year, we had just missed the last one (in july) and the next would only be organised when there was enough demand >:(
Our son is becoming more and more self conscious about them and we now seem to have very few options
these are ones we have thought of and would appreciate any thoughts or any others
1) take him back to the doctors / find another doctor and insist they are removed there
2) Find out how to remove them and do it ourselves
3) go private
with all of these, we would be grateful for advice from anybody in \ has been in a similar situation
many thanks

Aww bless I'm really sorry to hear this, kids dont need an escuse to be cruel to others so the sooner this is dealt with the better.
I would definatly go back to your doctors, explain your concern and ask him to either refer you to another hospital or ask if he can refer you to a private clinic, with nhs cover.
this is an absolute outrage i could go on but best not to get me started >:(
have you called into your chemist, they might be able to give some advice :-/
but i hope you get this sorted out very soon.
and Good Luck, keep us posted

i've gotta say, going back to your doctors seems the best idea. explain that he is self conscious of them, and ask what else can be done.
best of luck,

If it was one of mine..next port of call would be back to the docs..
I'd be a little wary of trying to treat it myself with it being on his face

thanks for the words of encouragement
- we did take him to the chemist but she suggested going back to the doctors or tying some cotton round it and pulling it off!
debs - i'm not sure what you mean by a private clinic with nhs cover - does this mean that we need to sign up to something like bupa or just pay a reduced rate there?
thanks

i wouldn't do the cotton thing.
that sounds awful. traumatising for the child more than anything. can't believe they would suggest that.

contacted the doctor today
mentioned some of the points raised here and was offered an appointment at the liquid nitrogen clinic tomorrow (friday)
thanks for all the help - will post again after that appointment, (though the dr was reluctant to get involved last time because of where the 'warts'were)0 -
make sure you let us know how you get on,
best of luck,

Tea tree oil works. Just pare down the wart a little with an emery board and apply the oil every night until it has disappeared. Try to use the best oil you can with the highest percentage of Terpinen 4-ol (30-40%)and the lowest percentage of Cineol (3-10%)
Hope this helps

they might be caused by a skin virus called 'molluscum' - i had some removed with liquid nitrogen when i was a teenager. good luck :-)52% tight0

Hiya
some areas offer to send patients for treatment at a private clinic on the nhs, if there is a shortage or no availability in your area for the treatment you need, i'm not sure if this is available through all authorities but i know it is available in the Bury/Rochdale areas, has both my mother and hubby have been treated in this way. i dont think that its offered willingly but if you push it can be made available, i'm sure it also depends on varying doctors/surgeries etc as it wasn't offered immediatley, just when i little pressure was applied. lol
may be worth asking, they can only say no,
Glad to hear though at least something is being done now, best of luck, and kisses to your little boy :-*
