Not Flushing

Hi guys,

I wonder if anybody can help me?

My toilet isn't flushing properly, any ideas of how to rectify the problem?

Spikey

Thanx to all in advance

Have you checked to see whether the ballcock is working properly and not allowing enough water in ?

The water level rises to the same level as it did before and the problem has only stated about a week ago.

I have adjusted the ballcock so that it lets more water in but still the same?

    Totally confused now? ???

I assume you have a low level/close coupled loo.

The innards of these are all plastic. The flushing mechanism, thats the big bit right in the middle of the cistern, wear out.

Replace it, a fairly strait forward job, just make sure you turn the water off, or tie up the ball valve in the cistern.

DIY shop stock them, or better still a plumbers merchant.

    yeah I agree

your syphon ( the big bit in middle of cistern where the handle connects to it by a plastic bit then a metal type hook )

the plastic bit that pulls up the water inside the syphon when you go to flush your loo has( torn/came off ) You can fix this but with all the hassle and time fixing this bit your better off going to get a new one.

Its only held in by a big plastic nut on bottom of cistern. turn off your cistern at the stopcock, unbold it from your wc or unscrew from wall, screw off overflow connection and cold feed connection, empty water from cistern down wc turn cistern upside down unscrew big nut take out syphon from inside put new one back in making sure washer inside is covering hole put nut on screw up tight but not too tight still making sure the washer covers the hole then replace doing every other thing backwards.
    hope this helps ?

My husband and son have just had to do this. Straight down to B & Q, the parts including float came to around £20 ish. They found it quite straightforward to do the job themselves.

Good answer, but dont forget to renew the large Donut washer before bolting back together. You dont have to renew the whole syphon just the plastic disc 20p from plumbing supply,s
