Have some of the rules with railcards changed recently? I always thought upto 4 adults and 4 children could travel on one family railcard? Also, do the price restrictions with a YP railcard only apply before 10am? I always travel off-peak and have never been subjected to a minimum fare with a YP railcard.0

No changes that I know of - except SW Trains have started observing the minimum peak fare rule correctly rather than refusing to issue tickets altogether (this may have been one or two rogue stations only)
It's 4 adults and 4 kids according to the family railcard site - same as it always has been.
The minimum fare with a YP card is peak hours only - no minimum off-peak
I fear ticketcollector may have been relying on a faulty memory.0 -
Theres so many rules and regs regarding railcard travel urrghh.
There is a minimum fare on YP cards before the applicable cheap day becomes available. I.e. when Off Peak starts, This is relaxed during the months of july and august.Ex-Employee of a Train Operating Company.

**Disabled Persons Railcard (DISC) £14**
This card is given to people registered disabled and who have filled in a form.
This card is not able to be purchased from ticket offices.
It gives 34% off on most tickets and an accompanied adult also gets 34% off the same ticket.
10% off on sleeper services and the same for the accompanied adult.
We have just been charged £18 for a Disabled Persons Rail card.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
can anyone explain why i can use a family railcard and include an invisible child and buy 2 tickets for a 9.38 oxford-paddington train (paying 17.85), If the child were under 5 (the invisible one) i can buy a ticket for 13.85 as the child is free. i cannot catch this train at all using a network card? it arrives Reading at 10.03 and from Reading, i would be able to use my network card on the VERY SAME train. I intend buying the ticket today for travel tomorrow and getting on it anyway. it must makes me SO CROSS that i need to have about 3 different cards etc. Surely time of arrival is much more relevant than departure time and would eliminate this kind of stupidity. Arriving in paddington after 10.00am cannot be considered peak time, and anyway, the FGW trains are often so late that the peak tickets are effectively off peak....0

That doesn't make much sense. Maybe worth rereading and editing your post? xGone ... or have I?0

As you well know, a Family Railcard can be used on any off-peak services, which tend to be for departures after 09:30, but a Network Railcard can only be used on services after 10am.
Why the difference - maximising income. The purpose of the cards is to encourage people who would not otherwise use the train to do so, not to give a discount to someone who was going to use the train anyway.
If you were allowed to use a Network Railcard earlier than 10am then they would lose some of their full price sales, as individuals travelling on business or to work may be able to use them. With families if you didn't let them travel before 10am then they may not travel at all, and again they would lose that income.
Saying that you could get on the train further down the line after 10am is not relevant, but I am sure will amuse the ticket inspector when they tell you your ticket is not valid. Also ticket inspectors are quite used to dealing with people with invisible children trying to use Family Railcards.0
