my college

Well the college term has ended :j
A lot of hard work by everyone but we all passed.
I think i need to explain, i am a part time student, studying an english course for aspiring writers at my local adult education centre, which i love. but the council (who own and run our centre) have dropped a bombshell on us.
I am writing to inform you that the council has reviewed parking arrangements for the spaces behind this centre and the undercover parking area. The outcome is that from 27 June, only vehicles displaying a staff Council Permit will be allowed to park in these areas.
There will still be two bays available for disabled learners/staff and two bays allocated for loading/unloading of equipment/materials etc. If you use the loading/unloading bays you can collect a notice to display on your windscreen from the office, which should be returned before you leave the carpark.
The car park will be carefully monitored on a regular basis by the authority, so it is important that all centre users follow these new instructions.

Am i the only one who things this is a tiny bit unfair? this is the main centre in our area (apart from the local h.e college which only really does a-levels and nvq's) and we are the only centre with no student parking!
This basically means that anyone with a 3 hour class has to buy an all day parking ticket for the council owned car park which is nowhere near the centre (and costs £3!!!) and students with classes starting after 6pm has to either arrive about half an hour before their class starts to TRY and get an on street parking space (v limited- most are down barely lit streets which are out of the way) or park on one of the car parks (which are unlit).
I am going to write a letter voicing my concerns to the centre manager (might try and phone them tomorrow?) and then write to the local newspaper.
Don't think i would have the support of my fellow students (small class, and wouldn't want to ruffle any feathers).
Am i doing the right thing???

It stinks but it seems to be the norm with most councils & colleges anyway.
There's no harm in having a moan but I wouldn't think that you'll change anything.0 -

Bet it is when they own them
It's typical, we're the biggest, newest, flagship centre and we get treated the worst :doh:things arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back thenMercilessKiller wrote: »BH is my best mate too, its ok

Parking seems to be going slightly mad at the moment! In my town we have just found out that we can no longer park outside our train station to pick up or drop off passengers, not even for a few minutes! There is a car park but we will have to pay the daily rate of £2.50 just to park the car, get out for a few minutes to allow passengers out, take bags out of boot, wave bye, then drive off again! Not exactly worth £2.50 really! There is a longish space in front of the station which has now been allocated as a taxi rank and bus stop and there are no other areas suitable fro dropping people off not even very quicky! I am totally unimpressed with this as I don't drive and I often get a lift to the station with heavy bags which I need assistance with. Now we either have to pay the £2.50 or leave me to struggle with heavy bags and then possible miss the train. Totally ridiculous! We are also having a massive shopping complex built in the future (well they claim we are anyway!) and this is going to be built over the two large car parks in the town leaving no parking at all!! It makes you wonder doesn't it.
The OP should certainly write letters of complaint to the council, if you don't then they wont know anyone cares! I think we live in times when people expect others to sort things out for them, I reckon we need to take the bull by the horns and start demanding better treatment, for god's sake we pay enough money towards the country don't we! Good luck!!0 -
I'm going to phone up the centre tomorrow and see how far i get (probably not very).
Just spoke to one of my class mates by text and he said that he agrees with me. One of my main concerns is that people will vote with their feet :-(
I feel pretty strongly about the issue of parking charges, why should the public pay to use land that is theirs and is maintained by money they pay seperatly.
In my town the parking charges pay for enforcement rather than lighting and security!things arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back thenMercilessKiller wrote: »BH is my best mate too, its ok
