Immersion heater on econ 7 or oil for water

Hi there, I was wondering if anyone had some advice about which to use. My water is currently heated by a oil boiler (oil price just risen to 45p a litre) but although I don't have stoarge heaters I am on economy 7 (npower approx 4p). I was wondering if it would be cheaper to an electric immersion heater on economy 7 to heat my water.
What do people think
Thanks for any help

    Welcome to the forum.

Yes it is normally marginally cheaper to use E7 to heat water than oil.

The calorific value litre of oil is approx equal to 10kWh. If the efficiency of your boiler is 80% that means that you are paying approx 5.5p per kWh against 4p for electricity(which is 100% efficient)
  • Thanks for the reply, will think about fitting a timer
