If the very worst happens then there's always entry through clearing in august. If you don't get in email back and ask for feedback, then use the information to prepare for clearing interviews. I really hope you get it x
Asking for feedbacks a really good idea, Thanks I'll do that.. Well hope I don't have to though hehe

There's a discussion forum for social work students and social workers at http://www.communitycare.co.uk/carespace and you could probably get some good advice about your interview there. Good luck!0

Dont worry, i was convinced i didnt get in. I answered the simplest question wrong. What are the main umbrellas that are discriminated against... people from minorities, women, disabled... but i completely forgot sexuality which is bloody obvious! I nearly burst into tears, not out of upset, Id just worked myself up so much because ive been wanting to get on this course for years - im 23 so been working for 7 years.
I got in and start in september! With Social Work theyre not just looking for A-perfect answers, its about your broad understanding and people skills, not just technical ability say like a maths course.
Good luck, and im sure you'll be fine.
xxxDebts incurred through illness and homelessness, starting a degree in September, going bankrupt in November and having a well deserved fresh start in January 2009! Bring on the new year! Interested in thrifty living, and if its green all the better for it! xxx0 -
This thread has been so useful. My daughter has an interview soon and is feeling a very worried about it. One minute she was high as a kite with excitement, next minute flat as a far* thinking about how it could go wrong, what they are really looking for, will they hold against her because she is part time (it's an in-work training opportunity) etc etc. She desperately wants to get in having worked in the field for over six years. She has been wanting it for so long, and now its here, it's a bit daunting.
I have pointed her in the direction of the forums so that will be very useful for her, to see what kind of questions, scenarios etc. pop up.
What you have all said is that it is the person and their beliefs that swings it, rather than actual technical knowledge. If that's the case this time then she will be fine, but then I am her mum, so I would say that wouldnt I?
:hello:  please play nicely children !0 -
Hi Sally,
I am too late seeing this to give you advice. I have interviewed prospective students for the social work degree.
The main thing that they will be looking for is what your values are.
They will want to make it as comfortable as possible and may prompt you towards what they want.
They will be looking at your attitude to oppression and social justice and a genuine interest in the work; not expecting you to know every detail of social work law or minute detail of other cultures practice but a firm sense of social justice and equality.
If your examples are linked to things you have done or witnessed then that will make it better.
This is a bit garbled but may be useful to someone and I would be happy to be pm d questions if anyone else is going for interview.
good luck

I have recently started a social work degree. I used the following website to prepare for interview http://www.socialworkcareers.co.uk/links/general.asp I think there was a book list on there. I got out the most of the books through my local library & read up on social work before the interview. I found that helped with the written test too. Oh & I dressed smart, but not a suit... trousers, top & cardigan.July £10 a day Challenge= £0 / £3100
