Zone Alarm doesn't like me!

I had it set to learning mode, but it rarely seemed to learn,
sahun, couldn't agree more, it really seemed to hate Firefox.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
Unfortunately, it's well known that zonealarm on Vista is a dog. As an IT professional it used to be my firewall of choice, but its affect on Vista was extraordinary bad, so much so that it crippled a machine with Core2 Duo and 4GB RAM.
Have a look at http://discuss.pcmag.com/forums/thread/1004379809.aspx for a fairly typical discussion....
Typical discussion maybe - but it runs absolutely fine on my wifes laptop which has only 1GB of ram

im jsut thinking, could i potentially have some spy-ware/mal-ware/ad-ware/any other of those bad things in my computer that is causing this problem?

I run Comodo on all my machines. It's true that its database of "Safe applications" is small, but for applications that you trust, immediately setting it to "trusted application" substantially reduces the number of alerts.

On a new machine, the following are fair assumptions:
all installed applications are free from spyware
a decent firewall and anti-spyware will prevent malware from being downloaded or executed.
I have found that Defense+ can be disabled, providing you are not regularly visiting "dodgy sites", or installing software whose provenance you are unsure of. If you go down this route, it's imperative that you keep both anti-virus and anti-spyware up to date, plus do a full weekly scan of your machine.
An additional security measure is to only access your email via your provider's web site, as this will reduce your exposure to likely sources of "infestation"
( Phoodless - you lucky bustard! Zonealarm's death grip on Vista certainly isn't universal, but it's enough to have caused much consternation in the computing press.)te audire non possum. musa sapientum fixa est in aure.0 -
I've been running ZA on Vista ever since it was released and I've had no problems. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
use Zone Alarm on Vista and have had no problems either. I suggest OP re-installs windows."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

The latest version of ZA requires you to select Vista or XP. Did you select Vista?
If you weren't given the choice then you haven't loaded the Vista compatible version.
As for performance, I don't notice any difference with it on or off (I have a hardware firewall as well) though "certain" software does need a bit of work doing to allow it to pass through the firewall properly0 -

Yeah i used the link from above, and that gave me the option of Vista or XP and i chose Vista.
It just makes the computer really slow and non-responsive, even when i go to uninstall the firewall (so havent found the patience to sit there for an hour to uninstall it yet)
I am currently using the windows firewall, and leaving zonealarm shutdown (not that it would do anything when switched on as it says i need to reboot.Never knock on death's door, ring the doorbell and run away ..... he hates that :mad:0
