Can I get a free satellite image of my boundary?

Is it possible to get a free satellite image/photo of my boundary from about 5 years ago?
I live in semi next door to a corner plot that has a diagonal slant on the fence across my garden.
I have a suspicion that my neighbour moved the fence in his favour before I viewed and purchased the house and would like to be able to confirm this with tangible proof.

you can certainly get a satellite image for free. but whether it would be large enough scale or detailed enough to determine a boundary is very unlikely.
you would need a spy satellite photo for that sort of detail.

its hard enough with the deeds of a property.

For a recent image, google earth or the Microsoft version will give you a good indication.

I don't know what the Microsoft version is called but google won't bring it up as they have their own.....

Alternitively do a google for arial photos of your area.

One other source is the land registry to find out where the boundary is but these are not wholly accurate - they only give an indication.

In addition you should also check the title deeds to make sure that land was not transferred in the past.

Or the fence could have been moved by mutual agreemen between past owners of both properties.

Also, if the fence has been in its current position for more than 12 years then he may have effectively acquired the land his side of it via Adverse Posession.

But, even if the neighbour has moved the fence, you surely viewed, bought and paid for what you saw, and still see - so you settled for what you saw. But now you say what you saw and agreed to buy is not enough.....? It's not me expressing a view but it is one viewpoint to consider when you do risk falling out with your neighbour over this - a boundary dispute is no use to anyone, and risking one just because the fence may have moved before you bought the house really does not make any sense at all.

Not only that, he may take the view that the fence should be further over into your garden. What do you do once you are put on the defensive?

By all means satisfy your curiosity and build up a dossier on it, but, as the fence hasn't moved since you bought the house, I would let sleeping dogs lie unless your neighbour creates boundary issues in the future.

I was disappointed with google earth. Had a look at my place and the image is clearly years old.

try maps.live.com - its Microsofts version - in some areas not only can you get an aerial view (directly above) but you can get what they call birds eye view which gives four different views from above but slightly side on.

The maps.live.com is definitely years old - I've just had a look at our house with this and the picture was from about 1998 - a good one to check if you want to look at old boundaries, methinks!

Also try http://www.aboutmyplace.co.uk - put in the postcode and when it loads see if there's a "birds eye view" option. Depends where you live if it's available for your house.

Having looked at our old house on maps.live, the aerial shot is old but not as old as 1998. I'd say sometime between 1999 and 2003. By contrast the birds eye shots are later than summer 2005 but not as late as summer 20007. The dates probably vary from area to area depending on when the aerial photography was done.

Or try Multimap and go to aerial view. The degree to which you can zoom in varies from place to place.

    Wow that is fantastic!Thanks.
I can even narrow it down to when the shots were taken of here- either Oct 2005 or Apr 2006. That's how clear the pictures are.
Far better than google earth where you have to download stuff to the pc.
