Help please!!! growth trust unit explanation???

please could somebody explain to me exactly what these 'units' are please?
i have inherited 259.9107 growth trust 'units', i understand what 'shares' are as i used to have 400 shares at 206p - easy!
so what are these 'units'?

how do i work out the value of a unit (.9107???!)

can i sell them as easy as i sold my shares?

i would be very grateful if somebody could shed a little light as im fumbling around in the dark!!!

If its a unit trust, then its very similar to shares. x number of units multiplied by the unit price equals the value.

They can be sold quicker and easier than shares in general.

It looks as if the fraction is puzzling or amusing you. Unlike with shares, you can hold fractions of a unit in a Unit Trust.

  • thanks for that, i have been reading up on the subject all evening and learnt a lot!
i believe now is not a good time to sell them, do you think they will pick up? if so, in your opinion, when is the best time to sell them back? i have been left 3 unit trusts - scottish widows global growth, s/widows uk growth and cis uk growth.
i now have an understanding of their current value and would be happy to receive any advice offered.
again many thanks to all that have responded to my original post.

Good question, but if any of us knew the answer, we would be a lot better off than we are!

It's impossible to suggest what you should do, but I doubt whether many people are expecting world markets to rally substantially in the near future.
