Settled accounts.

On my Equifax credit report, I have 3 settled accounts.
One of those is for my old Debenhams store card.
Does that mean that my debenhams account is closed? It's years since I've used the card and I've never received any letters stating that they've closed my account.

I believe that simply means there is no outstanding balance. May I suggest you write to Debenhams asking them to close the account and confirm. If you have lost their address, it ought to be listed on the Equifax report

A settled account signifies that all balances have been repaid, the account has been closed, and the credit facility is no longer available for you to use.

So I can destroy my card and not to worry about it?
I thought the account could be closed because the two other settled accounts are for loans, so once the loan was paid, there was nothing else than close it.

    Yes.

What sometimes happens is that (credit card) accounts are closed by the lender, but they then forget(!) to notify the CRA's of the 'settled' status, although it's clearly not the case going by your file.

Well, that's good news as I wanted to close my Debenhams account anyway.:T
No harm done, missile, you learn every day.:D
  • One of my cards had settled on it on my credit report but I have since then used it without reapplying for it, s obviously the lender did not close my account.

I doubt I could use my Debenhams card anyway, there is no chips on it. And no expiry date. They stopped updating the card on my callcredit and equifax report end 2005.

My Debenhams card has no chip or expiry date and is still accepted.

I had a number of old accounts on my report, I wrote to each to close the account and asked for confirmation. Maybe overkill, but just because I am paranoid does not mean there is not someone out there trying to clone my accounts.
