printer stopped halfway through printing text onto dvd disc:mad:

both red lights flash together and it comes up with general error
looks like buying a new printer.
but which one

need one for photo's and dvd discs

but this message does not say maintenance required

the message says general error switch printer off and remove any obstructions in the printer and then after a few minutes try again

i do have the ssc utility installed on my pc

Most of the time when all the lights are flashing on your printer, it means they are dead. 10 days ago my dell printer was doing that. i called the dell technical support and they said my printer was dead and it would cost more to repair the printer than replace it.
