Home Information Pack advice needed pls

Hi,

I am sorry if this has been mentioned a few times already.

We are looking at selling our house and would like to know if anyone has any advise as to where is best to purchase the HIP from?

I see tesco does one for £349...is this good? How can I find out where to get one from other than the EA?

Thanks :T

  • Hi there,

Start off with a quick Google....

Then try a few websites - one, eConveyancer offer them from £299+VAT, which will come in close to the Tesco deal.

My main advice on this though is be VERY careful if you are offered a 'FREE' HIP by your local estate agent.

Check the T&C's very carefully - some state that you cannot use the 'FREE' HIP with another agent.....

    Sneaky eh??

By now there should be local HIP companies popping up in your area. Where abouts are you?
  • As the contents of the HIP are mainly things solicitors are used to dealing with then why not get your own local solicitor to do it. Then they have the stuff they need to get started when a buyer is found...

    PM me for more info.

As a retired conveyancing solicitor I believe the information given in the post to be useful assuming any properties concerned are in England/Wales but I accept no liability for it.

Agree with what Richard has said. In many areas solicitors are providing the HIP & organising the EPC.
  • Solicitors are indeed well placed to provide HIPs as every document in them bar the EPC (at the moment?) is intended for use in conveyancing.

Having said that there are also many dedicated local HIP providers out there who are now serving their local community. Try googling 'Home Information Pack' and your nearest major town/city or check your local e-business listings. Should be quite a few in the Yellow Pages too which is due out soon.

You can also compile HIPs yourself by ordering the individual documents and then instructing your local Domestic Energy Assessor to provide the EPC. Again, try the same sources to find a local DEA.
Happy to help with HIPs and EPCs
