Zanussi washing machine extended garuntee.. is it worth it

Just got a new washing machine. When I registered the product, they offered me an unlimited length time warranty for £3.99 a month. This covers for even accidental damage such as bra wire getting stuck in machine ect.. The £3.99 a month will remain the same price for as long as I have the policy and I can cancell at anytime.

Question is: is it worth having?

I obviously already have the 1 year garuntee.

It's only worth having if the machine breaks down. Some extended warranties don't come into effect until after the first year (so a 4 year extended warranty is actually only 3 as you have to use the normal one for the first year). I have a zanussi and touch wood it's still going strong after nearly 7 years, I did take out an extended warranty with it but claimed the money back after 5 years due to not making any claims, I don't spend money on warranties any more though. Manufacturers extended warranties can I believe be cheaper and better than 3rd party ones you may be offered by the shop you buy from.
  • It was bought via the Zanussi customer services team telephone line.

I can cancel it with no charge before the 14 day cool off period.

Hello the devil made me do it

Is it worth it? Probably not.....................as MSE Martin said in an article:

Buy anything from Dixons or Currys (and similar stores) and they'll try to flog you their Coverplan warranty. Yet this is rarely worth it. The Consumers Association has done many studies which show the cost of the warranty versus the likelihood of breakdown and likely cost of repair and it never pays to get such warranties. Even if you do you're better off with a multi-utility policy from someone like Norwich Union.

My Zanussi washing machine is 13 years old. It is still in perfect working order and has never broken down or needed a repair...............and I didn't waste my money on a warranty.;)

I'd say no, you've got the year anyway and machines normally last many years without breakdown - after a few years at £50/year you could have bought another new one anyway
  • Thanks all. I'll just cancel it.
