Any Camera techies out there ?

I have a Kodak DX6490, about 2/3 years old and the connection socket on the side of the camera where you plug the USB lead into to transfer pictures from camera to PC is playing silly b's. I have to hold the connection in and 'wiggle' it to get the connection to work. Any slight movement and it disconnects. I know its not the lead as I have bought a new one, its not the PC USB port, definitely the camera end. Contacted Kodak and they say they dont repair these cameras anymore (out of date).
Anyone know if I can get this sorted anywhere.

have you looked to see if you can ease the edges of the mini usb port in to tighten the fit?

Hmm. Tricky. These days any professional repair would probably cost more than a new camera. The best "solution" I can think of is to get a little USB card reader and put the memory card into this to transfer the photos onto the PC.

Forgive my ignorance, I'm a bit of an aged technophobe, Have just had a quick look on Ebay and they seem very reasonably priced. I presume I put the memory card into this reader which is attached via USB to my computer. This then transfers my pics to the pc. Does it ask me where I want them put ? Can it put them directly into my Kodak Easyshare software where I keep all my pics for editing etc ?. Do I have to look for anything special in a Reader ?
    Many thanks for your help.
  • 15 card readers in 1 unit nowadays and internal fitment if you want, select the facia colour. Just make sure the card type you have will fit. Under a tenner. www.overclockers.co.uk stock them. Readers offer faster transfers than the camera also you can write back to a memroy card as well. Regarding file location you put it where you want to its only data,01, all the same stuff.

Have ordered one now and am keeping fingers crossed that this works okay as I dont really want to have to buy a new camera.
