Can anyone help me????

7 years ago when we bought our new home we had fuel supplied by powergen, Anyway after 4 years we had a call from them saying that the meter numbers had been muddled and we owed them over £1000. So we have been paying £100 a month to clear it and have nearly done so, when we got the electricity bill in. It asked for a meter reading, so i went and did it, to be told we owed them over £1000 in electric. They said we had not been giving meter readings, but we had used the online serive on a couple of occasions. I asked them when they last read our meter and it was 5 years ago, so now we pay over £250 a month for gas and electricity, and really are strugging. Any advise would be great.
