GLASSES DIRECT SCAM

Pete_Skinner

Why does mse continue to promote this scam of "Two pairs for £14"?

It used to work fine a few years back but now they insist you can't have basic lenses and try to force you to have higher packages. They dropped from gold to silver when I forced an argument with them.

Has anyone managed to get 2 pairs for £14 in the last few months?

Woodstok2000

It's not 2 pairs for £14, it's 2 pairs 'from' £14.

If you go on the glasses direct site, it's very easy to pick a pair from the '2 for £49' range. You select basic lenses, add your discount code, and there you go.

I tried this morning and it took less than 5 minutes to get two pairs of glasses for £14 in my basket ready to buy.

Obviously they want to upsell you where they can, but it's miles away from being any sort of scam.

Would the same be true if you had ordered simple (not vari- or bi-focal) prescription lenses?

Yep - works for basic prescription lenses - see below, although I don't have a prescription so couldn't enter any details but it seems easy enough to do.

The code also gets 50% off more expensive options but then that will take you above £14.

Banner at the top of the order summary column says "Enjoy Free Shipping", further down says "Free delivery over £95".

Happen to know if delivery is free with this offer?

Yes, the MSE code includes free shipping.

OK, so we're all agreed that this is a genuine offer and isn't a scam.

OP are you happy?

OP are you happy?

Of course they are, that's why they've changed the title from "SCAM" to "MISUNDERSTANDING".

Under the lens package page you are offered Gold, Gold+ or Platinum options at increased cost. There is no "continue with basic lenses" option. This option is given as being available on MSE and it was there in the past but it is not there now.

Added:

Sorry, anything over +4.25 and you need thinner lenses so you have to choose at least the Gold option.
