Refund on Savings Stamps

Not sure when I started to buy these from the Post Office (seemed like a good idea of paying for the Car Tax) but I've got a card with two £5 stamps on. My mother was taken ill and I think thats why it ended up forgetting all about them until I was having a de-clutter of paperwork today.
According to the Post Office website they don't accept them anymore, nor do they refund but say the DVLA will. Checked the DVLA website and couldn't find anything about them.
Will I get a refund on these or not ?
Doesn't say on the savings card anything about them being for a license....that part is left for me to fill in so this must have been in the days of being able to pay all sorts of things by buying stamps.
I know its only £10 but well, every little counts.

Lady at the DVLA thinks I'll be able to use them towards the car tax payment. They do just say Post Office savings stamps on them but I know when I first got them the intention was for paying the car tax.
I'll take them to the Post Office next time I go down and check it out.
Thanks for prompting me to ring them.............could kick myself for not thinking that in the first place:confused:
Put it down to avery 'senior' moment

    What sort of savings stamps?

It sounds from the description you have given (writing on the card what you are saving for) that they are Post Office savings stamps, not car tax savings stamps. The latter were discontinued some time back, the former are current.

In this case you can't cash them in, but you can pay for items in the Post Office with them - buy a few books of stamps before they go up maybe.

If you are very friendly with your local Post Office they might actually cash them - but it's against the rules.

Thanks ........the card just sayd Post Office savings stemps Collector Card
Then there's a space to fill in what you're saving for.
The stamps don't specify anything, just savings stamps. I'll see what our post office say. If the Post Office still do these savings stamps it will pay me to carry on getting them towards paying for next years car tax.

Yes they still do them - it's only the specific car tax ones (and also TV licence) that were discontinued. They had their own special cards.
