JSA entitlement expired - what are my options?
Hi All,
Current circumstances
Death of close family member 1 week ago
Lifetime ISA > 16k
JSA entitlement (6 months) literally ran out today
I am in no fit state to return to any form of employment yet. I am wondering if there is any other benefit I can attempt to claim. I made a claim over the phone for PIP yesterday. I feel depressed but this has not been diagnosed by a doctor and I am not on any form of medication currently. I am able bodied
Is there any way I can prolong JSA or claim anything else? My ISA will prevent me claiming UC if I am not mistaken?
TIA

You could claim Employment and Support Allowance though to do so you will need a fit note signed by your GP. The benefit isn't means-tested for savings. It is dependent on NI contributions

Not meaning to be harsh but feeling a bit depressed and grieving is not a reason to claim PIP, whatever you are claiming for has to have been an issue for at least three months.

Commiserations on your bereavement. You could try to claim ESA but this is not a quick process and the bar is set quite high. Were you jobseeking while on JSA?
Basically yes you have too much in savings to claim UC so you would be expected to live off your savings until they are under 16k and could then claim UC with a reduction for savings over 6k.
