Doorstepping and my data

I just got doorstepped by an "energy expert" about my gas/electric. I am with Utilita. She new my usage, my provider, my top up habits and that i am a low user. when challenged about how she knew said she had access to some sort o database. To me that is well out of order. I want off this database and my data erased, or at least access to it blocked for these doorsteppers. Is this possible please, bloody big brother!

It's openly available to all. There even used to be a comparison type website where you could put in your neighbouring addresses and have access to all their suppliers and data consumption. As it was based on industry data, mine was of course completely inaccurate and stated that my annual electricity consumption was 20,000 kWh

This data was available long before smart meters were in widespread use.

Please give the exasperation a rest it is what it is and nothing to do with smart meters.

It's data collected and used by energy suppliers so that when they give you a quote it vaguely matches your usage.

Conspiracy theories do not apply here.

Switch / comparison sites have used the data in the past - and even without registering in past at least one - allowed access to multiple addresses - which I am not so sure happens anymore.

But maybe still does.
