And why not? I left school at 15 straight into an apprenticeship. I worked and paid income tax, N.I. etc. for 50 years and still pay income tax because I was foolish enough to make extra financial provision for retirement.
I'll gladly accept the £100 and W.F.P. as a form of tax rebate for what I still pay.

We will get the £100 for being in band D but don't actually need it. I don't feel entitled to it and will donate to our local hedgehog rescue.
Sorry you feel foolish for not having to rely on the state for extras in your senior years, when I get to the same position in a few years time I will be proud that I don't.

Virtue signalling much?
Honestly pensioners who have put in for many decades, over half a century deserve what they get, diminishing it or making them feel less than you is a poor standpoint imo.
Not a pensioner but glad my grandparents are and they are getting help as they did far more than just paid into the system for this country.

A bit like my family. Me, in social housing won't get it while other family members with mortgage free properties and good salaries will get it. It's a funny old system.

They have said there is a seperate fund that councils will have so hopefully people like yourself can apply?

I won't be eligible but thanks for the thought.

Not really, I just think this government gives too much away to folks who don't actually NEED it.
There are many struggling with the cost of living at the moment who will really appreciate it but there are also plenty who will buy a few more bottles, presents etc. for Christmas, knowing there'll be a bonus £100 arriving in January to pay it off the credit card.

given the dire forecasts along with now 250p+/ therm gas prices suspect many more will be suffering than during Ukraine epg era.
High gas driving energy cap forecast £450+ Jan, more like £650+ vs now by Apr. £50-100pm in high winter months for many will soon erase £100 grant.
another baked in 5% council tax rise in April
a potential extra 4% on next years rent to cover 4% higher tax rates on private landlords for around 5m homes - on top of already typically way above inflation annual - and heaven forbid their landlord has had to renew their BTL mortgage
Somehow struggling to believe OBR recent forecasts on household (even at just 1% over 10 to 2029) and govt finances. Especially given their oil and gas price assumptions.

Edit - just a note here as updated my other thread on it - MSE now updated there future cap thread as of 28th
Cap rises now forecast £465 to £2188 in Jan and a further rise to £2374 in Apr - £651 above current £1723 for DF DD cap

I'm glad I ignored ML's advice not to switch if you were on a decent long fix, which I was, but another one came up which suited my usage better (low user) and at a cap of £1510, its going to take a long time for rates to fall that low again. That was 5 weeks ago, can't get a fix like that again now.
Thats me sorted for the next 23 months, no worries about energy prices or tou. I'm happy to be paying what i'm paying. ☺️
