When should I try and haggle with Sky?
Hi, my Sky contract is due to run out in February and my bill will rise from £103 a month to £141 a month. I currently have broadband, Sky Signature, Sky Sports HD and Sky HD. I only have Sky due to Sky Sports and the ability to record and watch stuff back. I would like to stay with Sky but as the price of everything is rising I will consider cancelling the Sky TV entirely and just keeping the broadband as it is very good.
I chat to an agent online today and they told me the best they can do is £126 a month. I declined and said I will consider what I want to do. Am I better to not do anything now and get in touch with them in January to try and get a better deal then?

My own experience with Sky (TV only though) was that they wouldn’t budge at all when my package came up for renewal . I ended up cancelling and trying them again a day before I was due to be cut off and they weren’t interested, told me I could keep my Q box and basic programmes for £15 a month so I took that hoping they’d come back to me with a better deal. 3 years later , I’ve not had a single offer for anything, I don’t even get marketing calls (just scammers telling me they can halve my bills if I give them my name and address and card details).
Strangely we haven’t missed it as much as we thought we would.
One tip though, keep a close eye on cancellation dates and notice period. I actually got them to tell me the exact day I needed to give notice on so if I went ahead with cancellation I wouldn’t have to pay a penny more than I needed.

Nobody else will probably mention this but if tv is just for sport & ability to record look at BT/EE, would get bb & sports only for less than paying now

All my offers show as ending on 5th February so I plan to contact them around 2nd January to either haggle a better deal or give them 31 days notice.
I don't really watch all that much regular TV any more it is mostly Netflix, Amazon etc but I have an Apple TV box with BBC iPlayer and stuff like that so I think I could get around it that way. It is just the sport I want.

I have had a look at EE and with the record box it is coming up about £73 a month.

Got the same TV Packages as you plus UHD -Only paying £44.50 pm - undiscounted only adds up to £88.50pm. Add on ~ £30pm for b/band and comes to £118.50pm - so they aren't giving you any discounts ??

Yeah, that's either a really poor deal or they're missing loads off it. I have Q, Signature, Netflix, HD and 500Mbps BB with PAYG calls for £57 per month.
