A very neat 10 word summary of Deliveroo's very wordy T&C (below) which you have agreed to
- Your Rights if Something is Wrong With Your Items or Service
We may request further information or a photograph showing the problem if it is something that can be seen by inspecting the Items. We may require you to return an item to the Partner to receive a refund, repair or replacement where…the product is faulty, damaged, misdescribed or otherwise non-compliant. Our Application will explain how to return items to a Partner. Where you return an item to a Partner, the Partner is responsible for assessing the Item, your return, and accepting, rejecting or taking other action in accordance with these terms, the Partner’s returns policy and your legal rights. We do not offer a collection service for Items. You can contact us through the Application if you incur reasonable return costs in returning a Item to a Partner.

That 'wordy' load of tosh would make me run a mile from ordering anything from Deliveroo - if it was a service that I used in the first place.

Impressive wordy tosh though, read that and it's like the entire bit in the middle of your experience didn't actually happen and it's not their responsibility - you ordered food from a "Partner", there's a problem with the food? Take it up with the Partner.
Absolutely no mention of the delivery by bloke on hooky electric bike or dodgy Yaris.

Not necessarily, if you pay via PayPal you are actually paying PayPal not the company, obviously PayPal ultimately passes the money on to the merchant less fees but then Deliveroo also pass the money on to the restaurant too.
According to Deliveroo's own terms your contract for the goods is with the restaurant, your contract with deliveroo is limited only to the delivery aspect and then only when its their rider rather restaurants own. So it very much depends what went wrong… restaurant made a mistake and put the wrong label on the order then the restaurant is to blame. If the rider brought the wrong order to your door then its deliveroo.

General advice is chargeback with card provider, I don’t think these food delivery companies defend chargebacks but they will likely block the account or place it in a negative balance.
