Five hours of trying to upgrade an EE PAYG account to a monthly contract. In the end I gave up. For a start, the website on desktop doesn't work. Some pages say 'Service unavailable', others (including, worryingly, the payment details) call me "Mr PREPAY PREPAY' instead of my actual name in my profile. It sends you randomly to the Phones storefront, even if you're just submitting a section of a form. It will say that as a PAYG customer I'm entitled to a discount, then when I click continue, ask me if I'm a PAYG customer like it didn't just acknowledge I was, and when I confirm I am, fail to mention the discount and take me to either a random page or a blank one. Their plans have information points beside them, which if you click go to a list that describe completely different products. And much more.

The app is slightly more responsive. After only an hour I managed to navigate through the purchase process, enter my bank details and get to the 'credit check' section. The first question is about my employment. I can either be 'Office-based', 'non-Office based', a student, retired, or other. That's it. WTH does that even mean, office-based? And even if it could be defined, what use is it? No database holds that information on me and as such the form could not possibly validate it.

The next question asks me, when did my employment start? Which employment would that be? My current employment? But that's self-employment. My last job in which I was an employee? My first job in which I was an employee? Only a few decades apart.

Then it asks when I opened my bank account. Just let me go through my drawers, I'm sure I saved that paperwork from 50 years ago with the specific date I opened my bank account.

At this point I gave up. Otherwise all I'd be doing is running a hard credit check which would obviously fail, given that the information is meaningless, and getting nothing but a reduced credit worthiness.

Oh yes, and despite me quitting prior to completing the process, what do I get in my email? A message about 'my new plan' and asking me to read the documents relating to my 'new contract'. I'll be getting it for free if I they have signed me up, because no way are they getting any money from me.
