Natwest Premium Insurance vs Standard

Good Morning All,

I have a issue where I am trying to make a claim on a natwest insurance policy from 2019.

The issue is that they are saying that I had a standard policy and not a premium policy.

I can find a policy number for the standard policy but not the premium one (although I do have a premier booklet in my files).

I have spoken to Natwest and UK Insurance but they cannot find a premium/premier policy attached to my address.

I have of course questioned this, average/standard insurance in 2019 building and contents cost approx £180, I have direct debits of a premium of £50 to £52 a month and I am pretty sure I took a premier policy out.

This is crucial to my claim on legal expenses, as they are saying it only covers employment tribunals and not High Court Civil claims.

Any help would be great, thank you.

You don't have a Premium policy document for the period in question and neither NatWest (broker?) nor UK Insurance (underwriter?) have record of the policy.

Any reasons that might make finding documentation less straightforward - name change(s), subsequent house move(s) etc

Think you will have to either accept that you have misremembered or if you are more certain then you might have to consider a Data Subject Access Request to all parties concerned, although it's difficult to see why this would find documents hitherto unseen.

The DD will have a reference, can Direct Line trace it via that? Have they confirmed the monthly payments for the policy they can find to see if it tallies?

What LE cover are you needing? Prsumably this is something that happened back in 2019 so most things would be statute barred by now

The direct debit just has NW home insurance on it, no other details, statute barred does not cover the (Takhar v Gracefield Developments Ltd) cases.

Direct Line have since phoned and said they can find nothing.

I guess it hinges on being able to prove somehow that a DD of £50 to 52, is not a payment for a standard policy, but being it is 7 years ago there is no records.

Dont know which bank you are with, but each of ours if you go into a transaction on their online banking it will show you the DD reference number. If your bank is odd and doesnt they should be able to tell you what the reference was.

Massive organisations like DL need DDs to be tagged with a reference so they know where the premiums are to go to. They cannot rely just on whos account it comes from as they have many customers with mulitiple policies and cant arbitrarily decide if the payment should go to Home or Motor

Even if the individual transaction entry was seven years ago? Would they still have that data online?

If it's gone to archive it'll take some time/effort/cost to get it back.

It's Natwest, there is no transaction number on the DD just says NW Home Insurance.

If its a Premier insurance policy linked to your banks account (Natwest Premier) which they charge a fee for, go back to the 2019 statement and if you paid a monthly fee for the account that will show the type of account you have

Thanks for the input, I have tried, and the only policy they can see is a standard policy.

The trouble is, I don’t believe i was paying over £50 a month for a standard policy and I vividly remember taking out a premium one.

Ask for a copy of the policy taken out in 2019 including the payment schedule. That will prove if it was standard or premium, ie if its Standard and the payment is less then you can ask the question why £50

I assume the policy is still active and its less than 7 years old you should be able to get a copy.
