Well I achieved my target after my working life to keep me independent, safe and looked after in my old age .

Banking crash, pandemic, crazy inflation and it's a drop in the ocean now.

You can't see into the future. Probably a good thing.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Welcome to the Forum, but I must ask what the point of this poll is? Saving cash isn't necessarily all smart people do, especially when the currency is losing value through high levels of inflation. A snapshot of saved money alone isn't a measure of success or careful planning.

Look in my bank accounts, and you might not find much, but that's maybe no bad thing provided I've other assets, especially those not taxable. Even items like trees, some of which are currently keeping me warm, are a valuable part of my personal 'savings'.

Whatever folks decide to do with surplus income, we're told a varied portfolio of assets is the way to go. As 2p says, we can't predict the future, but the steady reduction in money's purchasing power has been one constant feature in all our lives.

    Weak men. Hard times.

I agree that I'm not sure the point of this. People have different incomes, different different committed outgoings, are at different stages in their lives.
