Good news for anyone thinking about Ikea Pax wardrobes and their assembly
I've done lots of flatpacks, including a few Ikea Pax wardrobes.
Until recently, putting the main body of the wardrobe together on your own was VERY tricky but they've redesigned them and it's now a lot easier.
They now seem to come with the sides and back all attached together and held together with plastic tapes, you just need to stand the thing up, undo the tapes, and "unfurl" the thing - it'll stand up on it's own and you then fit various bits and pieces at the bottom including the front plinth and once that's been done you can fit the top and bottom.
The bottom just sits flat on the supports at the bottom, the top goes in fairly easily and has pegs that fit into shaped grooves - no tools needed. It really is a big improvement and means you could take the thing apart fairly easily too if needed.
I puzzled a little bit when I first came across this new method of assembly and it took me about 45 minutes, but the subsequent ones took about 8 minutes! Of course that's just to assemble the basic shell, the bits that go inside still take a fair bit of time and effort.
It's good news both for those who want to do it themselves and those who do it for others. No more of those nasty camlock things to screw in and then connect - with the risk of the top sinking down and ripping the chipboard to bits if you let go of it!
I found this YouTube video which shows what I mean: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HK4VW7sx_XI

Sounds like they've taken all the fun out of the job. 😉

Body is 9 characters too short.

Having done both, they are much easier now. Also, because you assemble it upright, you don't need much (if any) ceiling clearance to stand it up like you did with the old style. Assembling the old style upright was very tricky.
